Tamil Nadu Board of Secondary Education (TNBSE) is a part of Department of Education, Government of Tamil Nadu since the year 1910 with the headquarters situated in Chennai. Being the oldest and the most well-known educational boards of India, the aim of Tamil Nadu Board of Secondary Education (TNBSE) is to develop, recognize and enhance talent and skills in our youth, to equip and enable them to meet the emerging challenges and demands of the century.

The vision of the Government of Tamil Nadu in the realm of Higher Education is to make institutions of higher education emerge as centers of innovation, excellence and development. The major focus is on Quality. The mission is to provide world class quality education, while opening the portals of higher education to students from rural and backward areas and marginalized families.

Objectives of TNBSE:

  • To provide and improve the quality of Higher Education in Arts and Science and in Technical Education
  • To achieve Higher Education Gross Enrolment Ratio of 25 percent by 2025.
  • To provide infrastructure facilities for the development of Colleges
  • To impart education by World Class pedagogy.
  • To implement E-Governance in the Administration.
  • To facilitate institution-industry linkage for inculcating entrepreneurial culture and encouraging Research and Development.
  • To promote inclusive Socio-Economic Development of the State by offering Higher Education to the students who belong to weaker sections of society.
  • To popularize Science and Technology among people.
  • To produce degree holders of international quality for a global job market

Tamil Nadu Board of Education specially focuses on:

  • Collecting the data related to the students appearing in the several examinations,
  • Authorization of the centers to conduct the examination,
  • To maintain and supply question papers to the relevant centers,
  • Deliver stationary articles at the exam centers,
  • Tabulation of marks,
  • Release results and certificates,
  • Organizing the studies for the drop out students who could not complete their education due to some reason.
  • Providing roll numbers of the registered students for the exam and hall tickets for the private students.
  • Appointing officials to conduct the exam at the several centers that is based on the received proposal of the officers. It also includes constitution of valuation centers and the appointment of the examiners to conduct the exam.

Exams Conducted by TNBSE:

  • Tamil Nadu board conducts board exams twice a year.
  • It includes various streams such as Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC), the Anglo India Stream, the Oriental School Leaving Certificate (OSLC), and the Matriculation Stream.
  • It provides Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) for Class 11th and 12th too.
  • The department conducts 8th standard public exam that is purely for the private candidates and these candidates are also permitted for the exams SSLC and Higher Secondary School Exams directly.
