BSEB

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education, Government of Bihar. It is a statutory institution established under Article 3 of the Bihar School Examination Act, 1952, managed by the state government of Bihar. The primary role of BSEB is to conduct the annual matriculation examination (10th-grade exam) and intermediate examination (12th-grade exam) for all affiliated schools.

The board conducts secondary and senior secondary school examinations twice a year. The annual board examination is held in February-March, and an additional examination is held in May-June every year.

Primary Education under BSEB

BSEB is one of the major educational boards in Bihar, dedicated to providing quality education. The board is responsible for conducting exams for classes 1-12 annually across Bihar. The curriculum is developed under the supervision of the Bihar State Textbook Publishing Corporation Limited, Patna, and covers seventeen subjects, including mathematics, Hindi language, English as a second language, and environmental science. This curriculum aligns with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and Bihar Curriculum Framework (BCF) and emphasizes a child-centered approach as recommended by the National Education Policy (NEP).

Key Responsibilities of BSEB

  • Conducting matric and intermediate exams.

  • Organizing other departmental exams like diplomas in physical education, TET, etc.

  • Setting various courses of study, syllabus, and textbooks.

  • Performing duties as described in the Bihar School Examination Act.

  • Conducting annual secondary school exams in February/March and supplementary school exams in August/September.

BSEB Examination Pattern

For both matric and intermediate exams, the pattern includes:

  • 50% multiple-choice questions (MCQs): Each question is worth 1 mark.

  • Descriptive questions: Some subjects include practicals with a 30 lab + 70 written mark distribution.

For classes 10 and 12, each subject paper includes 50% objective-type questions (MCQs), and students have three hours and 15 minutes to complete the exam.
